Moosilauke Ravine Lodge - Saturday October 14

On Saturday October 14, the Grand Opening of the new Moosilauke Ravine Lodge was held. Wyeth and I went up and met up with friends there. We didn't end up hiking - instead, after exploring the lodge, we spent a few hours throwing rocks into the Asquachumakee River with our friends.

The new Lodge is gorgeous. They tried very hard to maintain much of the feel of the old lodge, although I think that many of us are reserving judgement until we get to spend more time there. I didn't get all that many pictures inside, so we'll all just have to visit it! They did make an effort to incorporate some of the old logs into the decoration, several huge boulders from the site were included, and logs from the local area were used for most of the beams.

They also had one of the bunkhouses open to tour. They are a major upgrade since I lived at the Lodge!! By this time, Wyeth had my phone and was taking pictures. It was fascinating to see the world through Wyeth's eyes. The next 4 photos were all taken by Wyeth.

It was a beautiful fall day, and was great to spend time down at the "river" (more a stream)

Not surprisingly, Wyeth and I were both exhausted - but he took a nap in the car on the drive home.

It turns out to be a really good thing that we visited when we did - the heavy rain and wind that we had on Sunday night ended up washing out many of the roads to/at Moosilauke, damaging trails, and causing a lot of damage. The Lodge ended up closing for the season 2 weeks early to address the damage (and because people couldn't get there). So our next visit will have to wait until the Spring.
